David and Jacinta's Walks- 2025

Chinley, Brown Knoll and South Head- David Solo Another very hot day, and I ventured out alone. I didn't want to drive too far, and Chinley always provides a "Good Value" walk. I decided that I'd drop over the saddle below Mount Famine and go up to Brown Knoll via Oaken Clough. Just past Whiterakes, a back lamb was shamelessly posing next to the stone structure with a great view of Kinder Downfall. I'd love to know what this structure actually is! At the saddle below Mount Famine, lambs were sheltering in the shade of a wall. They were so hot that they were unaware of me and just panted and panted to try to keep cool. Passing through the gate just beyond, cows were also feeling the heat. The orange one in the following picture didn't move as I went through, even though she was in the way! Too hot to moooove...  Chinley, Mount Famine and South Head The good thing about a Chinley walk is that one can have a leisurely start (via B&Q) and still fit in a reasonable outing. After a visit to the Green Lane Social café, which is always a hit, we went up to Cracken Edge. Quarries below Cracken Edge Sheep pic It was fantastic to see a hare dart in front of us as they are definitely not so visible these days. It was a lovely bright day, although very breezy on the tops. Another sheep pick, near Whiterakes We took our time and made it to the top of Mount Famine where the wind was stronger than at the start of the walk.   On the way up Mount Famine Cracken Edge behind, and Whiterakes just visible We did find a nice place to sit and have lunch near the top and the views all around were fantastic.
