David and Jacinta's Walks- 2025

Edale, The Lonely Trig Point and Blackden Edge Off for a walk on a Monday morning made special by excellent company. We met Ann and Julian in Edale and repaired to the Penny Pot for some refreshments. Then it was up the valley, to the left of Ringing Roger beside Golden Clough, to reach the edge of the Kinder Plateau. On the way up beside Golden Clough. It is good to take a slightly different route on Kinder as it is less travelled and seems much quieter. We took the faint path north to Blackden Edge. By now, the sun was out and it was very pleasant to walk in the clear weather. David and I always remember our trip to this area in the mist and the amazing cloud inversions we witnessed.  Edale, Jacob's Ladder and The Woolpacks We made the most of a fine early summer's day to go back to Edale to do this walk. From Edale it is a 3 mile walk to Jacob's Ladder which  today was enjoyable. At times, if this section is done at the end of a day out, it can appear rather tedious, but less so on this occasion. Jacob's Ladder and The Swine's Back in the distance Chapel Gate zig-zagging its way up to Rushup Edge Locals enjoying a stony snack After a (non-stony) snack to prepare us for Jacob's Ladder, we went up the steep staircase created by Jacob Marshall in the 18th century. It is nice to imagine how busy this packhorse route must have been before the advent of the railway at the end of the 19th century, transporting wool and other goods from Edale.  Mam Tor, Rushup Edge and Brown Knoll A trip to The Penny Pot was a little overdue, so off we went to Edale. The ewe on the fence still had her Easter decorations on! Happy Easter to ewe Lambing had started in earnest, and everyone was enjoying the sunshine as we went up the late towards Hollins Cross. There was still a slight chill to the air, and the clouds were a bit broody, but the view of the Great Ridge to the east was absolutely classic.
