David and Jacinta's Walks- 2025

Chinley and New Allotments (David Solo) Off for a walk on my own today, just to stretch my legs for a shortish walk. As ever, Chinley is convenient and the walk up to New Allotments isn't strenuous. Passing Throstle Bank and onto the bridleway, I passed a ram- this particular breed always looks a bit grumpy. This one didn't take exception to me and kept on grazing. Grumpy ram? The views weren't particularly inspiring over the New Allotments: A grey day at the New Allotments I crossed the Hayfield Road at Peep-O-Day but kept at the lower level, past Maynestone Farm, rather than going up Mount Famine or South Head. They'll be there next year. After crossing back over the Hayfield Road, I actually kept to the right-of-way on the OS map, past Hollands. This is possibly a less boggy path than our usual one and has the benefit of close encounters with a couple of emus, looking extremely bedraggled. To amuse emus on hot summer's nights... Chinley, Brown Knoll and South Head- David Solo Another very hot day, and I ventured out alone. I didn't want to drive too far, and Chinley always provides a "Good Value" walk. I decided that I'd drop over the saddle below Mount Famine and go up to Brown Knoll via Oaken Clough. Just past Whiterakes, a back lamb was shamelessly posing next to the stone structure with a great view of Kinder Downfall. I'd love to know what this structure actually is! At the saddle below Mount Famine, lambs were sheltering in the shade of a wall. They were so hot that they were unaware of me and just panted and panted to try to keep cool. Passing through the gate just beyond, cows were also feeling the heat. The orange one in the following picture didn't move as I went through, even though she was in the way! Too hot to moooove...
