Winder, Calders and The Calf We were able to begin this walk, Walk 15 from the Cicerone guide "Walking in the Lune Valley and Howgills", from the front door of the rental. The route went up through the town, past the pet shop which offered taxidermy as one of its services! From there, we walked on to Lockbank Farm. We spoke to the farmer who said that there should be lambs in the next two weeks and he was on his way to provide the sheep with some extra hay. The path then rose steeply up Winder and offered some great views- we could see the snow-clad Lake District mountains. Summit trig on Winder Lakeland summits (and windmills) The climb up Winder has been a traditional challenge for pupils of St. Custard's (sorry Sedbergh School), accompanied by a skool song to commemorate the event. Our next target was Arant Haw, reached by another steepish climb with great views at the top, including Whernside, which looked dramatic with its dusting of snow. Whernside in the distance ...
