Hayfield and Lantern Pike (Again!)

It promised to be a bit of a changeable day so we decided to go to Hayfield to stretch our legs. We walked along to the Sett Valley café as usual, deciding what we might have for breakfast if we come again in February 2026.

Stopping for lunch at the top of Lantern Pike

The rain held off as we made our way up the various slopes which lead to Lantern Pike, although it did come down for a short time on the top. It was really fascinating to see the weather approaching from behind us, pass over and bank up against Kinder.

We sat, eating our lunch, and admiring the panoramic view of Kinder, its weather and the glowing heather. It is great to stop and rest awhile and take in the changing weather and landscape.

We then went down to Little Hayfield, admiring the varieties of sheep to be seen, and back to the car.

Footbridge at Little Hayfield Mill

This was a short walk but a valuable one, with a lovely mix of scenery and weather.

4.4 miles with 450m ascent.
